Best Italian Pizza!!!  When I had a pizza at La Stella, I thought I was in Tuscany having one of their wonderful pizzas.  The whole meal was great!  We started with a drink – Prosecco – Valla Teressa (Organic), Kale Caesar, Pizza and Panna Cotta.  Go and enjoy for a real taste of Italy!

Our Story

LaStella is about sharing our passion for fresh ingredients handled with attentive care using old world methods and technique to bring you our version of what Nana Zuvich would make. This is why we chose to import Nanaimo’s first wood fire pizza oven and why we create hand made pasta from scratch each and every day. For the gluten-sensitive folks out there we also make fresh, gluten free pasta by hand using our own in-house recipe.

Our passion is fresh, seasonal ingredients handled with care and attention using old world methods. Simple prepared dishes with minimal ingredients lets the products of Vancouver Island shine. Our wood-fired oven is the center stage, churning out our version of Napoli style pizza. Cooking at 900ºF, our pizzas are finished in about 90 seconds resulting in a fresh, crisp yet chewy crust, with slight wood fire char, The best in thin crust methods.

From our dough to our sauces, our meats to our pastas, everything is made in-house using the best of what the season has to offer. We hope you enjoy what we believe is a very special little Trattoria.

Ryan Zuvich has been cooking for some time now. He’s cooked in some pretty amazing places with some pretty amazing people and counts himself quite lucky for the experience.  6 years ago he and his wife moved to Nanaimo and continued to meet some pretty amazing people and have created a couple of pretty amazing places to share with their new friends. The goal, if I understand correctly, is for Ryan to continue to meet some pretty amazing people and build pretty amazing places for the years to come.

FAQ

1.Do you have gluten free options?

We have worked hard to develop an in house, hand made gluten free pasta that we swear you won’t be able to tell apart from a standard noodle. We have several gluten free options for our appetizers and salads. Unfortunately, gluten is required for our pizza dough.

2.What's this I hear about fermented dough being easier to digest?

Glad you asked. We use a three day fermentation process for our pizza dough. During the fermentation process, natural enzymes break down the starches, extracting their natural sugars along the way. This is what creates such a depth of flavour in our pizza crust. One byproduct of this process is that these same enzymes are doing the work your digestive system normally does allowing the wheat (and gluten) to be digested more easily by your body. Gluten sensitive folks have reported that they don’t feel any unwanted effects after eating our pizza!

3.Can I make a reservation online?

4.Do you accept large groups?

For sure we do! We welcome your large parties up to 8 people. For even larger parties, give us a call at 778 441-4668 and we can talk about the different options!
